Alexei Tsinovoi – University of Copenhagen

Alexei Tsinovoi is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen. He has a B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a M.Sc. from the Copenhagen Business School. Alexei’s research project focuses on examining the role of images in the constitution of political identities and the visual articulation and disarticulation of security threats. By examining cases from conflict areas in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, a particular focus in the project is placed on the role of social media in the contemporary visual mediation of international relations, which facilitates new forms of diplomatic engagement where national identities and interests are visually performed and negotiated both by state elites and by the public.
